FEWER FULL-TIME JOBS, ENTITLEMENTS IN AUSTRALIA

June 6, 2018

Australian workers are being forced into part-time and casual work, superannuation is going unpaid, penalty rates being stripped and wage theft is rife.

We need to stop Australian full-time workers becoming working poor – they deserve free and fair bargaining and a living wage.

New research now shows – for the first time in recorded statistics – fewer than half the people employed in Australia have full-time work or leave entitlements in a changing job landscape.

The research also found the figures were not worker-driven as there was a jump in the number of people seeking more hours of employment, from 7.6 per cent to 9.1 per cent over the five years to 2017, while the average number of hours worked each month fell from 141 to 139.7.

Clearly, teenagers now face the frightening future of never holding a full-time job.

This is why the TWU is pushing to change Australia’s broken industrial rules.

Fight for your rights and get on board.
