Safer Roads: Police promise to be out in force this long weekend

The State Government have put out a press release warning drivers that Victoria Police will begin a four-day operation today targeting speeding, drink and drug driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, fatigue and distration.

The Labour Day weekend road policing operation will run from March 9 to 12, commencing on Friday after midnight.

Police have promised to saturate holiday hot spots, regional highways and city roads but have identified five priority areas – Melbourne, Bendigo, Casey and Dandenong, Ballarat and the Mornington Peninsula .

Local members will be supported by the specialist resources including the Highway Patrol, Heavy Vehicle Unit, the Solo Unit motorcycles and the Operations Response Unit.
