WORKERS DEMAND UBER RIGHTS

May 8, 2019

Melbourne-based rideshare drivers and delivery riders took part in TWU-organised protest actions today to demand fairness and safety for Uber workers, ahead of the imminent public sale of the billion-dollar backed company.

Drivers and riders in Australia delivered letters to Uber offices with a list of claims on the rideshare giant, including the right to negotiate contracts, acceptable rates of pay and to lower Uber’s commission percentage.

Strikes and protests are also taking place across the US, UK, France, Brazil, Nigeria and Chile.

Rideshare drivers and food delivery riders are paid below minimum wages, are inadequately paid to meet tax payments and adequately maintain their vehicles.
