Inspiring evening last Friday for the hundreds who attended the TWU (VIC/TAS Branch) Members Dinner.
Special guest speakers at the Maurice Blackburn-sponsored event included ACTU Secretary Sally McManus, Federal Labor leader Bill Shorten, TWU National Secretary Michael Kaine and former TWU National Secretary Tony Sheldon. The theme of the evening was Australia’s broken industrial system and why we have to #ChangetheRules.
TWU (Vic/Tas Branch) Secretary and TWU National Vice-President John Berger told the audience – which included hundreds of Branch delegates – that there is no doubt the tide is turning against a brutal and belligerent Coalition Government intent on destroying workers’ rights and dividing the nation.
“We aim to push back against the big economic powers, work to set industry standards and secure industry rates across-the-board and put the industrial fight on a global stage. We want to lift the quality and standards of jobs and ensure a fairer distribution of wealth,” John said.
“Mobilisation is the backbone of any union’s political and industrial influence and what delivers a more prosperous and equal Australia in which no worker is left behind.”
