Tullamarine Freeway closure this weekend

August 26, 2016

TWU members are reminded that freeway works will close a section of the Tullamarine Freeway on Saturday night (27 August) until Sunday morning (28 August).

If you’re likely to be out on the road Saturday night (27 August)  or Sunday morning (28 August), be sure to plan ahead, particularly if you’re heading to the airport.

CityLink will be closed in both directions from Bell Street to Bulla Road from 11.30pm to 7.30am as part of the CityLink Tulla Widening project.

The entry ramps at Bulla Road inbound (towards the city) and Bell Street outbound (towards the airport) will start to close from 9pm.

The primary detour route for both directions will be via Bulla Road, Woodland Street, Pascoe Avenue and Pascoe Vale Road.

Based on traffic data, the detours are expected to add an extra 20 minutes to outbound travel times and 10 minutes inbound.

The closure will allow for the installation of the largest overhead gantry as part of the project, spanning 11 lanes of traffic.

The gantry is part of implementing a freeway management system which will display on-road information alerting drivers to a variety of messages such as road conditions, speed limits and lane closures in the event of a traffic incident. This will give drivers real-time information providing a safer and more reliable journey.

Please be aware that this closure is weather-permitting and may be cancelled due to high winds and/or heavy rain. The project will endeavour to keep the public updated if the details of this closure are adjusted.
