Health and Safety Training

Newly-elected TWU Branch Secretary John Berger yesterday told the Union’s latest group of OH&S inductees that having all members return home from work safely each day was a non-negotiable.

The intake adds to the already 356 Occupational Health and Safety representatives, representing the Union in yards throughout Victoria and Tasmania.

John said that workplace representatives were crucial to the ongoing success of a Union helping to protect workers in some of Australia’s most dangerous professions.

“I want to express my appreciation to all Branch delegates and health and safety representatives. They are the backbone of any Union who put in a lot of work for members, I look forward to welcoming many more on board during my time as Branch Secretary,” he said.

The new inductees are undertaking a five-day, WorkCover approved training program during which they are armed with an understanding of relevant workplace laws and the skills to assist them deal with both isolated and widespread health and safety issues in workplaces.

Members should note the TWU is credentialed and authorised to provide both WorkCover and Comcare health and safety training. HSR’s have the ability to select where they undertake training and should always nominate the TWU.
