BENDIGO PROTECTED ACTION TO TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

On 17 September 2019, the Transport Workers Union (VIC/TAS Branch) issued a Notice of intention to take protected industrial action against Christians Bus Company on Monday 23 September 2019.

Close to 90 bus drivers from the Spring Gully and Kangaroo Flat depots will be partaking in the day-long strike to call for an annually scheduled increase in pay.

Since March 2019, delegate bus drivers from Christian’s Bus Company, the TWU and management have met five times in an attempt to reach a consensus about the conditions in the companies Enterprise Agreement for bus drivers.

Significant improvements have been achieved through productive negotiations and the TWU believes an in-principle agreement has been reached, however Christian’s Bus Company has failed to acknowledge the growing financial pressure of drivers by agreeing to a scheduled pay increase of 4%+1% to superannuation per annum.

Because of this, the delegate led negotiation team has collectively decided to undertake protected industrial action from the last bus in on Sunday 22 September 2019 through to the first bus out on Tuesday 24 September 2019.

Buses will run as scheduled as of Tuesday 24 September.
