Wage theft is real, rife across the transport industry and creating a class of working poor.
That is why TWU (VIC/TAS Branch) Secretary John Berger put a motion to the 2017 ALP State Conference calling for it to be criminalised –
Fast-forward 12 months, Premier Daniel Andrews announced last weekend that wage theft will be criminalised under a re-elected Labor Government – jail sentences and heavy fines will apply for those who deliberatly underpay workers.
These laws would not only secure a better future for thousands of transport workers – but all Victorian workers.
