CRANBOURNE PROTECTED ACTION TO TAKE PLACE ON MONDAY 23 SEPTEMBER

On 17 September 2019, the Transport Workers Union (VIC/TAS Branch) issued a Notice of intention to take protected industrial action against Cranbourne Transit Ply Ltd on Monday 23 September 2019.

After prolonged attempts to engage with the company, who challenged the TWU at every opportunity – including refusing to meet until after a Fair Work Commission hearing in which the TWU presented with a majority support petition on behalf of Cranbourne Transit Ply Ltd employees requesting the commencement of negotiations with their bargaining representatives, the TWU.

Since May 2019, delegate bus drivers from Cranbourne Transit Ply Ltd, the TWU and management have met several times in an attempt to reach a consensus about the conditions in the companies Enterprise Bargaining Agreement for bus drivers.

Although consensus has been achieved through productive negotiations, Cranbourne Transit Ply Ltd continues to push for the introduction of conditions which would force drivers to undertake split shifts and spend more time away from home.

We know all too well that extending the hours of work and lengthening the time spent on the road will lead to fatigue – a leading cause behind road accidents and deaths on our road.

We know this may cause some frustrations as the strike will have flow on effects throughout the wider public transport network in South East area of Melbourne, however please keep in mind the bus drivers who are continuing the fight to keep their conditions and entitlements.
