TWU (Vic/Tas Branch) Secretary John Berger was on-hand this week to address the latest group of health and safety representatives to undertake training at TWU HQ.
John thanked the attendees and told them that the Union is only the stronger because of active members in yards willing to step up and demand safer workplaces and better wages and conditions for their workmates and fellow members.
The TWU prides itself on being Australia’s strongest union for transport workers and we create training, seminars and materials for delegates and OHS representatives which allow for them to proactively and productively help solve union-related issues that may arise in the workplace.
John said that the Union had long been committed to providing members with the tools necessary to make a positive impact on their workplace and winning victories for members.
“Better educated members makes us a more capable and influential Union. The laws of the land are always changing, workplace safety and industrial rules are constantly being adjusted and workplaces are vastly different technological environments today for many members than when we first began representing them,” he said.
“We stand ready to provide all members, through the education of Branch officials, delegates and OHS representatives, with the knowledge, skills and support networks they need as the Union continues its ongoing fight for ordinary working Australians.”
