National Office Transition

August 13, 2018

The TWU (VIC/TAS Branch) welcomes the appointment of Michael Kaine as new National Secretary.

After over 30 years working at the TWU – at the helm of the NSW branch and as National Secretary, Tony Sheldon is stepping down to run for the Senate.

Michael during his time as National Assistant Secretary helped devise the strategy on Safe Rates and has been a leading figure in negotiations on some of the most far-reaching enterprise agreements in Australia.

He is well respected across the union movement and is co-chair of the ACTU’s Change the Rules committee.

Tony’s aim is to continue pushing in the Senate for improvements to the road transport and aviation sectors. He has been an outspoken advocate for our union, leading the charge for Safe Rates and the fight-back for airport workers.

TWU National Vice-President and TWU (VIC/TAS Branch) Secretary John Berger welcomed the changes and said the National Office and all State Branches will remain unified and strong as we push towards our 2020 vision and beyond. He also said Tony will be a powerful advocate working at the political level for TWU members.
