What information we collect
The TWU (Vic/Tas Branch) is bound by, and complies with, the Privacy Act 1988(Cth). This ensures the Union is strongly committed to protecting both the inherent privacy of all members and any information it collects from members. Members provide information to the TWU for several reasons, principally to enable the Union to contact individual members regarding matters connected with their membership and to ensure that the Union is in the best possible position to represent that member.
In addition, information is collected to make it easier and more rewarding for members to use Union services. Depending on the service being accessed, members could be asked to provide contact details and information, for example, about what they like and do not like. It is entirely the individual member's choice whether to respond to these questions or not. The Union will not ask for sensitive information. The Privacy Act defines sensitive information to include information about a person’s race, ethnic origin, health, religious or philosophical beliefs and criminal history. In the event we require any sensitive information we will only collect this directly from members and only use it for the purpose for which it was provided without your consent.
