TASMANIAN MEMBER DINNERS – ROARING DAYS

December 7, 2018

The various member dinners that the Branch holds across Victoria and Tasmania each year are a true highlight of the calendar.

The evenings are a relaxing night with great company and a good chance for guests to find out what’s happening in other sectors of the local transport industry, across the Branch and nationwide.

The dinners are also a valuable opportunity for Assistant Secretary Chris Fennell, Branch Officials and myself to speak directly with grassroots members and delegates on a variety of topics.

The TWU’s greatest asset is its members and we have a proud, strong and active base in Tasmania.

Many got along to one of our recent dinners held in Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.

Not only did they celebrate a year of industrial achievement and solidarity in the face of attacks on workers, our Tasmanian members had a big win recently after the State Government released funds to develop a state-wide rest stop strategy – read more.

TWU Branch President Allan Taylor, Assistant Secretary Chris Fennell and I attended all three Tasmanian dinners.

Both full-time TWU Organisers in Tasmania – Steve Moszko who takes care of northern Tasmania and Leroy Doble down in the south – also attended the dinners, along with fellow Organiser Greg Fleming.

Steve and Leroy cover many miles to grow membership and support our delegates and members in yards across the State.

See you all next you,

John Berger – TWU (Vic/Tas Branch) Secretary
